Managing Smart Objects

If you have the appropriate permissions, the Smart Objects Management option appears in the Gear Menu, allowing you to create and manage Smart Object definitions. For example: To create a new Smart Object, or to add to the fields that are defined for one.

To create or modify a Smart Object:

  1. Go to Gear Menu > Smart Objects Management
  2. Click New Smart Object.
  3. Specify Title of the object.
  4. Specify the object's Type:
    • Local - The smart object data table is created in the current account.
    • Remote - A remote data table is accessed as a fully-integrated smart object.
    • SalesForce Object - A SalesForce data table is accessed as a fully-integrated smart object.
  5. Define the object's fields, using the available field types.
    • Create a Smart Object field to reference another smart object.
    • Unlike streams, smart objects don't have an Image Attachments field type.
(Streams need them to enable drawing capabilities on mobile devices.
For smart objects, use the File Attachments field to add images.)
  6. Specify the object's settings.

To modify a Smart Object:

  1. Go to Gear Menu > Smart Objects Management
  2. Select an object.
  3. Click Edit to unlock the existing definitions.
  4. Define the object's fields and title, as when creating a new object.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Specify the object's settings.

To review the changes that have been made to a Smart Object:

  1. Go to Gear Menu > Smart Objects Management
  2. Select an object.
  3. Under the object's gear icon, choose View Change History.

To remove a Smart Object:

  1. Go to Gear Menu > Smart Objects Management
  2. Select an object.
  3. Under the object's gear icon, choose Delete.
(This option is enabled only if the rule has been retired, and if it is not in use.)
