You are a participant in the processing of a record when:

1. You filled in a form to create a record and saved it as a draft.
2. You filled in a form and submitted the record.
3. The person who submitted a form designated you as the requester (if the form gave them that option).
4. A task was assigned to you that was related to a form submitted by someone else.
5. You have chosen to follow a record.
6. You occupy a role to which a stream-process may assign a task in the future.

Note for Designers:

• If you are in a role to which any task in the stream may be assigned, you are automatically a "participant" in any record created in that stream, even if you have not yet been assigned any task regarding that record.
  So: 
  A task that goes to a different group of people from the original participants--especially if it happens only rarely--should be designed as a separate stream, and not as part of the "main"stream processing--because any groups to which a task is assigned in a stream would automatically participate in any record created in the original stream.
